Herbalife, LA Galaxy, and Garden School Foundation Host Fourth Annual Thanksgiving Cook-Off for Local Students at Dignity Health Sports Park
Soccer, nutrition and hands-on cooking come together to inspire healthy habits in South LA students
Herbalife, the LA Galaxy and the Garden School Foundation teamed up to host the fourth annual Thanksgiving Cook-Off for more than 70 students from Leapwood Avenue and Annalee elementary schools. The event, held at Dignity Health Sports Park’s American Express Stadium Club and Galaxy Park, celebrated healthy living, teamwork and culinary creativity through a day of soccer and cooking.
The day began with an energetic soccer clinic at Galaxy Park, where students learned new skills alongside the Galaxy Clinics Team and the club’s mascot, Cozmo. Following the clinic, students gathered in the Stadium Club for a hands-on cooking demonstration led by Matt Lindblom, executive chef for Levy Restaurants. Under his guidance, the young chefs prepared two nutritious and festive recipes: Three Sisters Succotash and Thanksgiving Pizza, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients and seasonal produce.
LA Galaxy player Edwin Cerrillo joined the students for the cooking session, offering encouragement, sharing stories about his training routine and taste-testing their creations.
“Herbalife is dedicated to inspiring healthy, active lives, and this event is such a special way to bring that mission to life,” said Jennifer Guran, Director of Global Sports Marketing and Partnerships at Herbalife. “Alongside the LA Galaxy and the Garden School Foundation, we’re empowering local students to learn where their food comes from, how to make nutritious choices and how small, healthy habits can have a lasting impact, all while having fun in the process.”
The Thanksgiving Cook-Off is made possible through the Joint Community Partnership Fund, a collaboration between Herbalife and the LA Galaxy dedicated to supporting community wellness programs across Southern California. As part of that shared investment in local youth, the Garden School Foundation, a nonprofit partner, provides garden-based education to more than 3,500 students across 11 Title I elementary schools in Los Angeles, teaching the importance of nutrition, sustainability and environmental stewardship.
“We’re proud to continue this annual tradition alongside Herbalife and the Garden School Foundation,” said Tom Braun, President of Business Operations and Chief Operating Officer, LA Galaxy. “This event brings our mission to life by engaging kids in an interactive experience that blends movement, nutrition and creativity. It’s always inspiring to see the excitement on their faces as they learn, play and cook together.”
The partnership between Herbalife and the LA Galaxy extends beyond this event. Through the Joint Community Partnership Fund, the organizations have delivered impactful programs throughout the year, including community mini-pitch unveilings, back-to-school initiatives and youth sports and nutrition programs across the region.
“We’re so grateful to continue this partnership with Herbalife and the LA Galaxy,” said Rachel Black, Executive Director of the Garden School Foundation. “This event is a perfect example of how hands-on learning can spark curiosity and connection. When students get to grow, cook and share healthy food together, they’re not just learning about nutrition, they’re building confidence and community.”
Fans can explore the two featured recipes, the Three Sisters Succotash and Thanksgiving Pizza, through downloadable recipe cards available online, celebrating Herbalife’s commitment to healthy, seasonal cooking.
